Follow this
guide to download and install the most current driver for your video
adapter.
Drivers
are updated as soon as new improvements to performance, response time
and interoperability are discovered by the hardware device developer.
The updates are distributed freely from the manufacturers website.
The location of drivers on the manufactuers web page varies per
manufacturer but are typically found within the Downloads
or Support
area of the web site.
To find and install drivers for your device, we first need to
identify the make and model of the device we are trying to update.
This practice ensures that we are collecting the correct driver. If
you don't already know the make and model of your device, you can
take the following steps to access the Windows Device Manager:
To
begin... Click Start
(Windows XP or earlier)
(Windows Vista/7)
You should now be in the device manager.

Look
under these categories for your device: Display
adapters, System Devices, Other devices
Once you have found your device within device manager...
Right-click the device
Select
Properties
from the options
Looking
in the General
tab you should be able to see the manufacturer's name and the model
of the device. Make a note of this.
Open your web browser.
Search for the manufacturers web site. We need to get
the driver from the manufacturers web site.
Once
you are at the manufacturers web site, you will need to search the
site for the Support
or
Downloads
section to find the driver.
Once you've found the driver download page, make sure
you select the appropriate driver for your operating system. There
will likely be a 32-bit and 64-bit version of the driver for
multiple versions of Windows.
Download
the driver and run the installer if there is one. If not, you will
have to manually extract the driver and manually install it to the
directory where your device drivers are stored by draggin and
dropping the extracted files to the drivers directory. This location
varies per manufacturer and Windows version but is usually located
within C:\Windows\System32\drivers
Make sure you uninstall or delete the old driver files
before installing the new driver.
How to
Uninstall Video Adapter Device Driver
To avoid errors with your drivers, it is a good practice to uninstall
the old driver before installing a new one. Most updated drivers do
not have any issues being installed over old driver versions but if
you want to play it safe, you can follow these steps to uninstall
your old driver when updating to a more current version.
To
begin... Click Start
(Windows XP or earlier)
(Windows Vista/7)
You should now be back in the device manager. You can
delete individual drivers for each device within this window. Find
the device you are trying to update by expanding the category it is
listed under.
Once you have found the device you wish to uninstall and
update the driver for...
Right-click the device
Select Properties from the options
Click on the Driver tab
Click Uninstall...
The uninstaller will guide you through the process of
uninstalling a device driver. Once it is finished, you are ready to
install a new driver.
